In today’s global game industry, East meets West more than ever, making cross-regional collaboration increasingly essential. This roundtable, hosted by the IGDA Chinese in Games SIG, is designed as a discussion-first session where attendees actively exchange perspectives on how Eastern and Western segments of the industry can collaborate more effectively. Guided by discussion prompts from two co-moderators, the session focuses on three high-impact areas: co-development, publishing and market entry, and investment and partnerships.

Takeaway

By the end of this session, participants will have gained a broader understanding of how to navigate and leverage East-West collaborations in game development. They will come away with concrete ideas and best practices for working across cultures, whether in co-production, publishing, live ops, or team management, and a clearer sense of the opportunities (and common pitfalls to avoid) when bridging the Eastern and Western game markets. Attendees will also leave feeling inspired and better equipped to engage in cross-border projects, armed with insights from industry peers who have first-hand experience in making global collaborations work.

Intended Audience

This roundtable is intended for a general GDC audience – game developers, publishers, investors, and students – who are interested in the intersection of Eastern and Western game industries. Whether you have direct experience in cross-border game projects or are simply curious about how to collaborate across cultures, you’re welcome to join. No specialized knowledge of the Chinese or Western markets is required; attendees just need an openness to discuss global opportunities, share experiences, and learn about best practices for bridging cultural and market divides in game development.
