Creating Player Expertise Microtalks
Video games have become a mainstream entertainment medium, and with that comes an increasing diversity in gamers' gaming backgrounds. We are moving on from the previous debate of "what are games" to the reality of game devs needing to tailor their designs to players who are coming into the game spaces from different generations and levels of genre expertise.
In this series of microtalks, developers from various backgrounds will talk about lessons they’ve learned from their experiences matching their designs to potential players' experience and expectations, and the tools that have helped them onboard players for the maximum fun gameplay experience.
Takeaway
Audiences should come out of this talk with tools and tips on understanding target audiences' gaming background, preferences, and expertise. How to make informed decisions in design, development, and beyond to avoid target mismatch and maximize success.
Intended Audience
This talk would benefit people who work in game development for general audiences across different backgrounds, or people who work in education/training/other games with a purpose that targets non-traditional gamers. As well as anyone interested in improving the inclusivity of their games.
