Research identifies psychological safety ("Felt permission for candor", as Harvard Business School Professor Dr. Amy Edmondson puts it) as the most important factor in team performance, above talent, experience, or resources. Silence on game development teams doesn't mean alignment. It often means fear, and organizations pay for it with mistakes, missed opportunities, and disengaged employees. Most leaders never see what's missing: the ideas, concerns, and honest conversations that never surface. This science-backed session shows leaders what a genuine "circle of safety" looks like and feels like, and gives them a practical toolkit for building it. This hands on workshop will get people using new tools to build trust, reward thoughtful risk-taking, and model the vulnerability that unlocks others, all so game development teams can make their best games ever.

Takeaway

Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of what psychological safety is (and isn't), and multiple immediately applicable tools to build psychological safety and the honest conversations, informed risk-taking, and collaboration that deliver top performance.

Intended Audience

This session can benefit any human being working in game development with other people! It will be especially valuable for those who formally or informally lead others. No prerequisites are required. All are welcome; all belong here.
