Iron Galaxy Studios took up the challenge of delivering a visually impressive remaster in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4. Their goal was to breathe new life into the franchise with an update that looked stunning on newer consoles but was still a great game with rock solid framerates on last-gen platforms. Jon Moore, the game's lead rendering engineer, will share details on tile classified shading optimizations, automated performance testing, analysis, and a case study of working with artists to optimize a level. This exploration will be supported by examples of some of the many optimizations the team identified as they analyzed the content across the game's many SKUs.

Takeaway

Attendees will learn about specific rendering optimizations made throughout development and the Iron Galaxy rendering team's approach to performance analysis.

Intended Audience

Graphics and Engine Programmers interested in rendering optimization and the challenges of shipping a game at steady framerates across 7+ platforms.
