Brian Baglow has spent thirty years inside the UK games industry — as a writer on the original Grand Theft Auto, founder of the Scottish Games Network, and author of Scotland's national Games Action Plan, the first sector plan of its kind to secure a full Parliamentary debate. In this session, Baglow makes the case that the skills games studios have spent decades refining — engagement design, retention, motivation systems, rapid prototyping in real-time engines — are already solving high-value problems far beyond the games industry, from healthcare and financial education to government policy. Drawing on named case studies and his own work building More Than Games, a live cross-sector consultancy practice, Baglow offers a practical framework for identifying the right non-traditional sectors, reframing pitches for non-games buyers, and structuring studio time so external work funds original IP rather than competing with it. Attendees leave with concrete examples and a clear first step toward new revenue outside traditional publishing.

Takeaway

Attendees gain a practical framework for identifying viable non-games sectors, reframing pitches for corporate and government buyers, and structuring studio capacity so external contracts fund original IP rather than cannibalising it — illustrated through named examples including Glitchers' Sea Hero Quest, NatWest's Island Saver, and Peloton's Lane Break.
