Online Multiplayer Roundtable: Security & Trust
Multiplayer games are getting more complicated by the day, yet so much of what studios learn operating them never leaves the building. This roundtable brings developers together to compare notes on multiplayer games Security and Trust, discussing the problems that only exist because other people are playing, and you can never trust a game client. How much do you actually validate server-side, and what did that cost you in throughput? Where did you decide trusting the client was acceptable? Cheating, botting, real money trading, item duping — what hit you hardest, and did you see it coming? When an exploit lands, can you tell what it touched, and can you roll it back? Who owns this: a dedicated team, or everyone's weekend?
Takeaway
Attendees leave with concrete comparison points from peers running live multiplayer games, covering how studios detect, survive and recover from cheating and exploits - both proactively and re-actively.
Intended Audience
This roundtable welcomes the full range of technical practitioners interested in building, scaling, and deploying multiplayer games — from those approaching their first through to developers who have shipped several. No prerequisite knowledge is required beyond general familiarity with technical game development. Some backend systems knowledge is a plus.
