Playing for Keeps: Designing Transformational TTRPG Roleplaying Games
What does it take to create actual transformation in your players? This workshop, aims to help rectify and demystify the process in an engaging, easy to grasp, and thoughtful way. By using an interdisciplinary approach of transformational game design theory, gender and sexuality studies, performance studies, and critical race studies participants will be able to learn the steps necessary to create change in their players and measure the success of that change. At the conclusion of the workshop, teams will walk away with a one sheet playtested game and how to integrate transformational game play into their analog game design praxis.
Takeaway
Attendees will explore how to use transformational game design techniques to guide their design process while gaining new insights into crucial player takeaways. Using hands on ttrpg game creation, participants will practice using research based design to encourage transformation in their players and understand concepts such as bleed.
Intended Audience
Designed for designers and educators, this workshop aims to take the academic design process for transformational games and present it in an engaging process. Both Novices and experienced designers are welcome.
