Williams/Bally/Midway made a name for themselves in the arcade world with their unparalleled use of photo-realistic digitized imagery starting with NARC in 1988 thru WWF Wrestlemania in 1995. Games like Hi-Impact Football, Trog, Mortal Kombat, NBA Jam, Terminator 2, and Revolution X featuring Aerosmith featured graphics that set them apart from most other games released during that period. Warren Davis, the developer of the digitization system used for all of those games tells the story of the development of digitized graphics at W/B/M from the exploratory days to the creation of their first 256 color system and its evolution and improvement over the years.
Takeaway
Attendees will learn how and why digitized graphics were introduced at Williams and how they evolved to help make juggernaut arcade games. They'll hear fun anecdotes and stories about unreleased games, and see behind-the-scenes photos and video showing how images from some of their favorite games were created.
Intended Audience
Anyone interested in retro-gaming, anyone interested in the history and evolution of videogame graphics, developers with a curiosity about how digitized graphics were created, fans of Mortal Kombat, T2, NBA Jam, Revolution X or any arcade games which used digitized imagery.
