GDC 2026 featured Part 2 of our series on Working in Japan, which focused on practical advice on preparing portfolios and applying to Japanese game companies. Our next lecture will compile experiences and anecdotes from international staff currently working in Japan. How did they get their jobs? How has it shaped their career? Was it difficult to adapt to a new culture and workstyle? These are some of the questions we will analyze.

We will look to present a wide range of examples, including those who came to Japan first as students, those who came to Japan after newly graduating from university, and those who worked as a professional first in their home country before coming to Japan. There are many ways to get into the Japanese game industry, and we will cover as much ground as possible through interviews with current staff.
