Theseus - A Live Platform Migration Story (Presented by Servers.com)
Multiplay is entering a new chapter. The server orchestration platform is joining Rocket Science Group, supporting a new phase for live game infrastructure and how studios build, scale, and operate multiplayer services. This session shares the ‘Ship of Theseus’ story told through the lens of migrating a live dedicated-server platform: keeping the player and developer experience consistent while evolving what is happening behind-the-scenes. We’ll cover what “migration at scale” really means - multiple platform variants, differing workflows, drop-in SDK replacements for Unreal, Unity, and custom engines, and updates to build distribution and supporting services - while live games and launches continue.
Takeaway
The session focuses on practical techniques used to safely migrate a live platform without disrupting players or developers. Attendees will leave with a concrete checklist for planning and executing a live platform transition without turning it into a big-bang rewrite.
Intended Audience
This panel session is aimed at multiplayer, backend or platform engineers, LiveOps, reliability-minded engineers, and technical leaders responsible for uptime, migrations and launch readiness. It will benefit anyone responsible for operating, scaling and maintaining reliable online game infrastructure, from backend systems to live service launches.
