Project Moon

Trauma and anxiety are some of the core psychological experiences inherent in human nature. Every person has a personal hell to confront, and in 'Limbus Company', the central narrative theme lies in how each character faces their own trauma in pursuit of their "true" self. In this talk, Project Moon's Lead Scenario Designer Eunkyong Han revisits both the complex and multilayered personae that have successfully resonated with the game's players, and those that have not. She presents a case-by-case comparison between characters with deeper personal histories and those who, despite the writers' best efforts, ultimately received less narrative growth. This session will explore the diverse approaches to breathing life into fictional characters and how their personal skeletons in the closet serve to sustain the overarching narrative journey of the game.

Takeaway

The audience will gain insight into how character writing and narrative design can reinforce the immersive experience of players. Through this session, attendees will also observe how the human trauma and anxiety, the hell that every person must face, can be used as psychological foundations in delivering a more compelling and visceral characterization.

Intended Audience

This session is aimed at sharing experience and concerns with developers and scenario writers at any level looking to create character-driven narratives. Anyone interested in game scenario and storytelling is welcome.
