Most trust & safety advice assumes that every studio has a dedicated team, a legal department, and a real budget. Small studios often have none of those, but they still need a plan before they ship chat, matchmaking, or any form of user-generated content. What they should be aiming for is a "minimum viable trust and safety stack" - the smallest set of policy, tooling, and escalation practices a three-to-thirty-person team needs. This session walks through how the small team at Minehut, a Minecraft server network with roughly 15 million user-generated servers, rolled out trust & safety features, and in what order they were shipped. Attendees leave with a realistic checklist and a sense of what to build vs. what to buy, not just an aspirational framework.
Takeaway
Attendees leave with a ranked checklist for a "minimum viable trust and safety stack": the smallest set of policy, tooling, and escalation steps a small team needs before shipping any social feature, and a prioritization of what matters now and what can wait.
Intended Audience
This session is intended for developers, producers, and community leads at small and independent studios without a dedicated trust and safety function, particularly teams shipping their first chat, matchmaking, or user-generated content feature. No prior trust and safety experience is required.
