For Honor just celebrated 10 years of live operation and its 40th Hero release.
Over a decade, we faced many challenges from major team realignment to tighter production cycles. How did we maintain strong creative vision and high-quality animation?

This talk breaks down how For Honor's Animation team preserved a distinct visual identity through a decade of constant change. We'll explore the challenges and solutions taken through three pillars: a fighting-game inspired animation workflow that delivers realistic and grounded animation, an early and evolving Motion Matching pipeline, and the production strategies taken to turn hard constraints into creative focus, all while shipping content.

Takeaway

Attendees will gain concrete techniques for sustaining live-game animation quality with technical examples and production-oriented solutions: achieving animation fidelity within tight fighting-game 'frame budgets', insight on how the use of Motion Matching was optimized since its creation and how to approach constraints with open mind through smart prioritization and organization.
