You Owe It to Your Players: Creating Value with Effective Monetization in Mid-Core Free-to-Play
In this session, attendees will learn how free-to-play mid-core title "Heroes of History" doubled per-player monetization performance compared to its predecessor, "Rise of Cultures". Based on this case study, Lukas will share tools and best practices for grounding games in solid business hypotheses, designing game systems that facilitate effective monetization and avoid cannibalization, and designing monetization initiatives that capture value effectively. Lukas argues that monetization is not a ploy to extract more money from players, but a win-win situation for both players and game developers: Failing to monetize effectively, UA-driven free-to-play games reach a smaller audience, receive fewer content updates, and ultimately die.
Takeaway
This session will equip attendees with actionable tools to analyze, review, and design engaging and monetizable games and features that meet the high demands of UA-driven growth in today's competitive free-to-play market.
Intended Audience
Game designers, monetization experts, product managers, and producers who want to expand their understanding of what makes a commercially successful free-to-play game. While the session is particularly beneficial for those working on mid-core projects, many takeaways will also apply to other genres, including more casual games.
