Mathieu Lavoie, Senior Director Music & Sound, SIDE Global
Mathieu Lavoie is an award-winning composer, entrepreneur, and educator. Holding a doctorate in composition, he co-founded Vibe Avenue, a leading studio in sound design and composition for visual media, with FX Dupas in 2013. Vibe Avenue became SIDE Montreal in 2023 by joining the PTW family of brands. Currently the Senior Director of Music & Sound, Mathieu has composed music and designed audio for dozens of video games and films, including D&D Dark Alliance, Star Trek Fleet Command, Omensight, Livelock, Lakewood Plaza Turbo, and Ultimate Chicken Horse. A specialist in hybrid orchestral music, Mathieu’s style is difficult to define in absolute terms, having worked on projects that blend genres such as heavy metal, retro synths, EDM, jazz, funk, and world music. His arsenal of instruments includes over a hundred flutes and bowed or plucked string instruments, which he regularly uses to enhance his compositions. Though no longer a university professor, Mathieu taught for more than 15 years at both Université du Québec à Montréal and Université de Montréal.
